The Success State of Mind

Do you have good days and bad days? Days where no matter your inspiration, your concentration draws a blank? I have a regular “To-Do” list I like to implement for both my online publishing and my daily home life and I find I have not just days but whole weeks where I have low energy and find it very difficult to truly focus on my work and fitness. So here are some tactics I employ to get ahead!

1. Sleep! For me, it’s not the quantity but the quality that counts. I may mean to go to sleep at an early hour but if I feel really fired up to write or research then best I get this done before I retire. That may mean a lay-in the next day but it is vital for me to feel invigorated within my inner mind in order to achieve anything worthwhile in a day. So sometimes I cut my sleep short and sometimes I allow myself a few extra hours. You may prefer a regular pattern of particular hours – whatever system works best for you, do! It’s all about maximizing your potential.

2. Fitness. I go for a walk once my initial enthusiasm for the day wears off. I will have made a start on the day’s tasks and probably seen a mini project to completion. Now I need to refocus on what I call the Bigger Picture: what I envision ahead for myself and my business and how I intend to accomplish this in small steps day-by-day and week-by-week. A brisk walk through a garden and down to the sea airs my mind and revitalizes my vigour. I take a notebook with me for ideas and a camera in case I spot any pretty flowers!

3. Eat & Drink. Keep it simple during your working hours. I love tea so I drink this and watered down fruit juice as I work. I start the day with a small bowl of cereal and bran, may eat a banana mid morning, then work through until I want to finish, have a main meal generally pulses based; later on I will eat a bowl of plain yoghurt. Brain food! I avoid alcohol since that only slows down my thought processes or simply puts me off working altogether! A quick healthy snack of fruit or salad is worth a ten minute break to get you back on track.

4. Timing the day. Whether or not you rate Time Management, you are probably aware that you have peak points during the day where you are most keen to focus, write, research and so on. Maximize your effectiveness by being keenly aware of these times and ordering your work to make full use of these moments of heightened potential productivity. This is the benefit of working for yourself to your own flexible but effective timetable. Quit working when you have had enough for the day even if you did not quite accomplish all you set yourself. This is why I plan for the week whilst working the day: it doesn’t matter what I achieve each day so long as I keep to my target for the week. I know I have different timespans of concentrated focus so I do what I can when feeling most attuned.

5. Maintaining motivation. It is all too easy to lose your Big Picture in daily details. To become confused or uncertain. Read aloud your goals and weekly targets as you begin each day. Take time to study motivational quotes and biographies. Watch a short motivational video. Write some new achievements you’d like to aim for. Strengthen your self belief by recalling key points in your life and your business when you enjoyed a success, met a target or scored your goal – dwell on your feelings at that time, and what this means to you now. Regularly read self growth materials and subscribe to a self improvement newsletter. This is nutrition for your mindset!

6. Relax well! Award yourself a half holiday. Enjoy a week’s vacation. Go visit some relatives or old friends. See a film. Read a book. Go for a swim. Visit a cathedral. Watch a sports match. Play tennis. Shop! All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!

7. Be sure to tape images of your success, both past and future, on your office wall. Both business and leisure: you constantly need to boost your self confidence each day to maintain momentum.

You are unique. Discover what makes YOU tick most effectively and devote your energy to boosting your confidence, your energy levels and your motivation each and every day. Tiredness of any kind will impede your growth and your attainment. When you fatigue, rest, go for a walk, eat & drink. Don’t overwork yourself or expect too much – just enjoy a gentle pattern of accomplishment each week. And relax deep! You da goods!
